Primary Teacher, Mrs Melinda Golinski received an award for motivating and inspiring students in mathematics and enhancing learning environments with creative practice.
Mrs Golinski reflects on her work in improving STEM education and encouraging Maths at School in the years to come.
I received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute.
The awards, sponsored by the BHP Foundation, are to promote mathematics, particularly programs that develop mathematical skills in girls.
As part of my research, I am investigating a model to develop teachers’ confidence when teaching STEM.
Head of Primary, Mr Rob Whirledge nominated me because of the work I do with teachers of other schools.
You do not do the job to get awards. However, I am very grateful and honoured to be recognized.
I plan to use my prize money to support the Mathematics program at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School which I hope might encourage students to continue on with Maths in the future.
