In partnership with Bunbury Rowing Club, we are proud to announce the School’s Rowing Program for 2025.
Rowing is a great way to introduce confidence in, on and around water. As a low impact sport, rowing has the capacity to develop and increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance, flexibility and strength, utilising 85% of your muscle mass. It gives a great cardio workout, has a low injury risk, and helps improve flexibility, balance and concentration. For those involved in other sports, it can provide an excellent way to build fitness and endurance during the off-season. Importantly, rowing has the ability to enhance important life skills including discipline, self-confidence, teamwork, and camaraderie.
The program is run from the Bunbury Rowing Club (BRC) (42 Cobblestone Drive, Bunbury 6230) each term. The opportunities that the program provide for the students are:
- Learn to row – introductory focus on the fundamentals of rowing for those new to the sport
- A dedicated BCGS session each Monday afternoon commencing at 4.00pm, with the opportunity for additional sessions with the BRC Junior squad throughout the week (on-water participation subject to suitable competency) if desired. Students need to be ready to go at 4.00pm, so it is good to get there about 10 minutes before this if possible. Sessions finish at around 5.30pm. The School provides a bus, which leaves from the Boarding Bus Stop near the Year 7 Centre at 3.30pm and returns at approximately 6.00pm. Students can be collected from the Rowing Club or from the School. Our teaching staff and the bus service will only be present at the Monday afternoon session
- Sessions are designed to be engaging, encourage teamwork and develop leadership and communication skills. The main objective of this rowing program is to introduce individuals in a fun and safe environment and then to continue to develop technique and skills
- Students will also have the option to compete in the local South West Head of the River regatta, and to participate in the Perth All Schools Regattas, if they wish
- Coaching under the supervision of a Nationally Accredited Level 2 Coach
All sessions take place at the scenic Leschenault Inlet. Sessions will be coached in a group environment, but within that we aim to tailor it to each student’s personal rate of development. BRC has a fleet of modern boats ranging from safe and stable beginner’s boats to lightweight racing sculls.
What is required of you:
- Wear gym-type clothing and have sandshoes, socks, cap/hat
- Bring a water bottle – NOT hard metal please
- Please wear sunscreen and long sleeves to minimise sun exposure (sunscreen is available at the club)
COST: The cost of the BCGS Monday session is $150.00 per term. Annual membership options are also available. Students can have a free introductory session before deciding to participate in the program. Additional Rowing WA registration and insurance fees apply if students join the BRC afternoon sessions but there is no additional charge for the sessions themselves.
Students who elect to compete in Perth regattas are required to upgrade their RWA registration/insurance and pay “seat fees” per race to cover event costs.
