Bonjour! Kaya! Ni hao! Namaste!
Languages Week at our school is a celebration of the many languages spoken in our community and around the world.
In Year 7 French, students competed in a Waiter’s Race, inspired by the Parisian “Course des Cafés. Students competed in a relay whilst carrying a tray with food items and passing on messages in French instead of a baton. The trick was to keep the message going, correctly without dropping any items! Crêpes were also on their menu.
In Year 8 French, students competed in the “Tour de Grammar”; a race around the campus inspired by the “Tour de France”. Students deciphered clues in French to reach pit stops, collect more clues to be first team back to “home base” and win French chocolates.
The Year 9 French students researched French regions and recipes, cooking and sharing with the class whilst the Year 10 French students enjoyed a traditional Raclette.
Year 11 and 12 French students competed in the state Alliance Française exams, shared some French treats, and played some language games.
Across the whole senior school there were Home Group quizzes, sharing knowledge of world languages and competing for prizes that were happening daily.
In the Primary School, students danced to world music, researched countries/languages inspired by the Olympics and sampled delicious food at the annual Primary Multi-cultural Food Festival.
Mme Wansborough, Mme Levy, Mme Spottiswood, and I hope that everyone enjoyed the week’s events.
Merci!
Mme Linda MacDonald
