Year 12 student, Sienna Guidi, was selected as the 2023 Head Boarder. She represents the Boarding community on the Student Executive and works with the Head of Boarding to co-ordinate activities for students in boarding and provides a valuable communication channel between the Boarding Staff and Students.
“I was really shocked and happy that I was looked up to and that other Boarders and Staff wanted me to represent them this year,” Sienna said. “It feels really special to be able to help make a difference in Boarding.”
Sienna joined the School in Year 7 from Kojonup and has really enjoyed the opportunity to develop strong friendships. “The friendships I have made in Boarding are some of the closest I have ever had,” she stated. “I have been able to build friendships beyond my year group within the Boarding community and these have lasted throughout my whole secondary school journey.”
She has also enjoyed being able to participate in a range of activities, including her passion sport Australian Rules Football. “Being in Boarding at Grammar, I was able to join the Girls’ AFL team. I initially played for the School team and then joined a team in Bunbury. I was then selected for the Peel Thunder and travelled to Perth for games.”
Sienna encourages Boarding students to get involved in the activities that are offered in Boarding, which have helped her to build her strong friendships. “By joining in the different activities, you meet students outside of your unit,” she stated. “My favourite activity has been going to the beach, as I got to know other students better.”
As Head Boarder for 2023, Sienna really wants to help build the Boarding community and encourages her fellow Boarders to stay in for some of the activities each weekend. “As you build these strong friendships, your friends start to be become more like family and, for me, that has made Boarding really feel like a great home-away-from home,” she concluded.
